New this year, the Dubuque Metropolitan Area Solid Waste Agency (DMASWA) expanded its’ household hazardous wastes (HHW) collection service through the winter season. Historically, this program was suspended from November to March. Since November 1, 2017, over 14,450 pounds of HHWs, such as oil-based paint, motor oil, lawn chemicals and cleaning chemicals, have been collected for proper recycling and disposal.
HHW’s pose environmental and health risks if not managed properly. These materials should be brought to the Dubuque Metropolitan Area Solid Waste Agency (DMASWA) Regional Collection Center (RCC) for safe management and should not be disposed of in trash cans, floor drains, or storm sewers.
This service is FREE to Dubuque and Delaware county households. Winter hours will run through March 31, 2018 and materials can be dropped off anytime between 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Mondays, Fridays, or Saturdays. No appointments are needed for residential customers. Any businesses requiring hazardous waste disposal assistance must contact the RCC to schedule an appointment. The RCC is located at the Dubuque Metro Landfill along U.S. Highway 20 on Dubuque’s west side. For more information, go to www.dmaswa.org or call (563) 557-8220.
