DMASWA does not provide solid waste collection services for garbage or recycling. Our primary area of service is landfill management and composting for Dubuque and Delaware county residents and businesses. Here are details about city-specific collection information, special collection of larger items or special cleanup projects.

Asbury

Garbage collection is every Wednesday except for residents who live on Seippel Rd., Centura Ct.,Sandpiper Lane, Berry Lane, Sandwedge Court, Long Grove Court, Arrowhead, Tuscany Ridge, Legacy Heights, and Wedgewood subdivisions, which are picked up on Friday. Residents are allowed one 33-gallon can or bag, not exceeding 40 pounds. Each additional container must have a garbage tag attached. Tags can be purchased at City Hall and Casey’s General Store in Asbury for $1.25. Please set curbside by 6:00 a.m. 

Recycling Collection – Dittmer Recycling(563)583-3381 
Recycling collection is every Wednesday except for residents who live on Seippel Rd., Centura Ct.,Sandpiper Lane, Berry Lane, Sandwedge Court, Long Grove Court, Arrowhead, Tuscany Ridge, Legacy Heights, and Wedgewood subdividions, which are picked up on Friday. Recycle containers are available at City Hall. Unacceptable items will be left in the bin and tagged for the reason they were not taken. Containers should be set curbside by 6:00 a.m. 

Yard Waste - Yard waste is picked-up on Thursdays from April to November. Residents should place yard waste curbside in a container (trash can or paper bag) with a yard waste tag attached to it - facing the street. Yard waste tags may be purchased at Asbury City Hall for $2.50 each. Tree branches and twigs must be bundled with string or rope. Branches must not be longer than four feet and the diameter of the bundle must not exceed two feet. The weight of the container or bundle shall not exceed 40 lbs. Yard waste will not be accepted in plastic bags. 

Holiday Collection - If a holiday falls on a collection day, that collection day will be made-up on the Saturday following the holiday.

Balltown

Garbage collection on the east side of town is on Thursday and collection on the west side of town is on Tuesday. Residents are allowed one 33-gallon container or bag. Each additional container must have a garbage tag attached. Tags are available at City Hall and local convenience stores for $2.00. Garbage must be placed curbside no later than 7:30 a.m. to ensure pickup. 

Recycling Collection - Allied Waste (563) 556-5393 
Garbage collection on the east side of town is on Thursday and collection on the west side of town is on Tuesday. There is no limit on quantity. Recycling bins and lids available at City Hall. Recycling must be placed curbside no later than 7:30 a.m. to ensure pickup.

Yard Waste - The Cascade yard waste site is open during daylight hours from April through November. The site is located at 5th Ave SW and Pierce St. SW. NO GLASS SHOULD BE PLACED IN THESE CONTAINERS!

Drop Off Recycling Station - Provided for rural residents and is located at 200 Buchanan St. Materials accepted include newspapers, magazines, cardboard, mixed office paper, paper egg cartons, junk mail and envelopes. Always available for drop off.

Holiday Collection - If the garbage collection day is a holiday, collection will occur on an alternate day. Notice will be placed in the Cascade Pioneer or call City Hall for the schedule. If the recycling collection day is a holiday, collection will occur on Friday.

Centralia

Dubuque

Garbage Collection - Refuse must be set out at the curb or alley line by 6:00 a.m. on the scheduled collection day. Residents are allowed one 35-gallon can or bag closed, not exceeding 40 pounds, for the base monthly solid waste fee. All customers can subscribe to additional or oversized containers for an additional fee. They may also purchase single-use stickers for excess refuse in bags or cans. Single-use stickers are available at local retailers and the Utility Billing counter at City Hall. Application forms for low income household discounts are also available at City Hall. 

Recycling Collection - Most recycling materials must be in a City of Dubuque recycling bin with a lid. Cardboard may be flattened, bundled, and set next to the bin, or placed loose under the bin. Additional bins are available at no charge by calling (563) 589-4250. Bins with wheels and handles, and six-gallon recycling baskets are also available. The weight of the recycling bin and its contents must not exceed 40 pounds. Bins must be set out at the curb or alley line by 6:00 a.m. on the scheduled collection day.

Drop Off Recycling Stations - Located at DMASWA Landfill, 14501 Hwy 20 West, Key West, 10356 Key West Dr., and Dittmer Recycling, 1755 Radford Rd. Materials accepted include newspapers, magazines, cardboard, mixed office paper, paper egg cartons, junk mail and envelopes. DMASWA Landfill hours are Monday through Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Stations at Key West and Dittmer Recycling always available for drop off. NO GLASS OR PLASTIC BAGS SHOULD BE PLACED IN THESE CONTAINERS!

Holiday Collection - Monday and Tuesday holidays are collected on the previous Saturday, and Wednesday, Thursday and Friday holidays are picked up on the following Saturday. Appliances and Bulky Waste - Large item collections are available year-round and can be scheduled on your regular collection day. For an incremental fee, customers may discard large, bulky, and excessive items, up to the equivalent collection of half of a small pickup truck load of items. Appliance collection (including microwaves) is also available for a fee. Items must be set out at the curb or alley line by 6:00 a.m. on the scheduled collection day. Call the Public Works Department at (563) 589-4250, Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., to schedule an appointment and for additional information. 

Yard Waste - The City collects seasonal yard waste weekly from the first full week in April through the last full week in November. Appointments may be scheduled by calling by Wednesdays for yard waste and food scrap collection December through March. Yard waste must be contained in either a brown paper yard waste bag with a single use City sticker, or in a rigid solid waste container with a single use sticker or annual decal. The container and contents must not be more than 35 gallons or exceed 40 pounds. Brush and limbs not in a container must not exceed 5 feet in length or 18 inches in diameter, and must be tied with a City of Dubuque BRUSH-TIE. Annual yard waste decals are available at City Hall. Single use stickers and BRUSH-TIES are available at most grocery, discount, and hardware stores throughout the city. Leaf “rakeout collections” may be scheduled in the Fall for a fee. Dyersville

Recycling collection is on Tuesday on the northwest, southwest and west sides of the city, and on Friday on the northeast, southeast and east sides of the city. The city allows unlimited recycling. Each resident is provided with one bin. If additional bins are needed, they may be purchased at Bi-County Disposal. 

Yard Waste - There is a compost site for residents located near the wastewater treatment facility, at the end of 23rd Avenue SE.

Holiday Collection - If a holiday falls on a Tuesday, pickup will be the Saturday before the holiday. If a holiday falls on Friday, pickup will be the next day.

Earlville

Yard Waste - Yard waste can be backyard composted, burned, or the property owner can make arrangements for composting at the Edgewood compost site.

Epworth

Yard Waste - For curbside pickup of bagged yard waste, purchase a $2.00 yellow tag at City Hall. Midwest Organic Solutions compost facility, 10166 Hartbecke Road, accepts yard debris free, 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Monday through Friday and Saturday mornings.

Holiday Collection - If the collection day is a holiday, collection will occur either the day after the holiday or residents will be notified via the City newsletter and website. 

Appliances and Bulky Waste - Special tags for large item disposal may be purchased at City Hall or Quik n' Handi based on $1.00 for each 50 pounds. Appliances picked up curbside require an appliance tag, available at City Hall for $10.00.

Yard Waste - City allows yard waste to be placed in the City’s compost pile, located near the City Shop. Place yard waste in containers or bags at the curb and the City will pick them up. Leaves are vacuumed in the fall - watch the newspaper for dates.

Luxemburg
