“Thank you for teaching our class about the landfill. I thought the machine that heated the methane gas up to 1200 degrees was cool. We couldn’t believe how much garbage the landfill collects in a year. It’s interesting how roof shingles get turned into asphalt roads. I learned a lot!”
“Thank you for teaching my class about the landfill. I learned that you collect shingles to help make roads. You also collect old tires and shred them to protect the ground and water from the garbage. My favorite part was looking at the machines flattening the garbage; that was awesome with the spikey tires on the compactor. I had a fun trip to the landfill.”
“Thank you for teaching my class about the landfill. I learned that they bury garbage. There is a lot of garbage collected in one day. I did not know that there was layers of material before they put garbage in the ground, so they do not pollute the water. I also learned that the garbage trucks are weighed and are charged to empty their garbage. It’s interesting that you keep old bikes for the Rescue Mission and sometimes give high schools old engines to use for class. I had a fun field trip.”
“Thank you for letting us come to the landfill. I learned that the garbage is put into layers to prevent groundwater from becoming polluted. My favorite part was seeing the big tractor compact the garbage. Every day the garbage is covered with 6 inches of dirt. I had a great trip to the landfill.”
