What can I do with unwanted paint (or
other household hazardous materials)?
Contact the DMASWA's Regional Collection Center
(RCC) by calling 563-589-1720 for more information on proper disposal of
household hazardous materials, including paint.
When is the landfill open?
The landfill is open Monday through Saturday, 7:30
a.m. to 3:30 p.m., except for holidays. Please call 563-557-8220 for holiday
hours.

Can I buy compost from the DMASWA?
Compost can be purchased from the Dubuque
Metropolitan Area Solid Waste Agency for $3 per cubic foot with a minimum
charge of $2. Small quantities of compost can be purchased on Saturdays from
8 to 11 a.m., while large quantities (truck loads) may be purchased on
Wednesdays from 8 to 11 a.m. Pickup and larger trucks will be loaded by
landfill personnel on Wednesdays. Persons picking up small quantities of
cmpost on Saturdays must bring their own containers and shovels and
self-load. Compost is available on a first-come, first-serve basis to all
Dubuque and Delaware county residents and busnesses. Call 563-557-8220 for

Does the Dubuque Metropolitan Area Solid
Waste Agency pick up garbage?

Paint cans must be completely empty or dried out.
They can then be placed in your garbage container.
What can I do with fluorescent light tubes
and compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs)?
Call the DMASWA's Regional Collection Center (RCC)
at 563-589-1720 to schedule a drop off appointment. Residents may use the
faciltiy at no charge. Businesses will be charged for the cost of service.
How do I dispose of a television or VCR I
no longer want?
Televisions and VCRs can be recycled at the Dubuque
Metro Landfill for a fee. Drop off appointments are necessary and can be made
by calling 563-589-1720.
How do I dispose of old tires?
Retail stores that sell tires are required to
recycle tires from customers. Tires can also be taken to the Dubuque Metro
Landfill for recycling for a fee.
How do I dispose of an old appliance
(dishwasher, stove, refreigerator, microwave, freezer, washer, dryers, etc.)?
Appliances can be recycled at the Dubuque Metro
Landfill for a fee.
How do I dispose of broken window glass?
Window glass can be placed in your trash. It should
be protectively wrapped or placed in puncture proof disposable container and
labedled "Caution: Glass" to protect those handling trash.
What should I do with Mercury
Thermometers?
Mercury Thermometers should be taken to the Regional
Collection Center for Household Hazardous Materials located at the Dubuque
Landfill. You must call 563-589-1720 for instructions and to make an
appointment.
